Last comment, author, date, visibility, and count as Jira fields
A Jira Cloud app that maintains five read-only fields on every issue so you can see the latest comment without opening the issue, and find stale work with JQL. Runs entirely inside Atlassian's infrastructure. No servers of ours, no analytics.
The five fields
| Field | Type | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| Last comment | Text | Plain text of the most recent comment, first 255 characters |
| Last comment author | User | Who wrote the most recent comment |
| Last comment date | Date/time | When it was written. Works in JQL: "Last comment date" < -14d |
| Last comment visibility | Text | public, internal (JSM internal note), restricted, or none |
| Comment count | Number | Number of comments on the issue |
What you can do with them
- Add "Last comment" as a column in List View or any saved filter, and export it to CSV.
- Find stale issues:
"Last comment date" < -7d AND resolution IS EMPTY. - Find untouched issues:
"Comment count" = 0. - Service desks:
"Last comment visibility" = internalto find tickets where the customer is still waiting on a public reply. - Dashboards and automation rules can use all five fields like any other field.
How it works
- On install, existing issues are backfilled in pages, oldest to newest, without any automation rule or rule-run quota.
- Every new, edited, or deleted comment updates that issue's fields within seconds.
- A nightly job repairs any issue updated in the last two days, in case an event was missed.
- Built on Atlassian Forge with no external egress: no data leaves Atlassian.
Pricing
Free for sites with up to 10 users. Above that, priced per user per month through the Atlassian Marketplace, with Atlassian's standard 30-day free evaluation. Billing, invoices, and cancellation are handled by Atlassian.
Permissions
read:jira-work to read comments and the field list; write:app-data:jira to write its own five fields; storage:app for two small internal records. Details in the privacy notice.

Writing JQL for these fields?
Our free Jira Cloud JQL guides show working queries step by step, and the JQL Cookbook (ours, paid, pay what you want from $12) collects 66 copy-paste queries, each checked against Jira Cloud's strict parser.
