Jira JQL date ranges that work
Short answer
Resolved last month:
resolved >= startOfMonth(-1) AND resolved < startOfMonth() ORDER BY resolved DESC
startOfMonth() is midnight on the first day of this month. startOfMonth(-1) is the same point one month earlier. Using >= on the start and < on the end gives you exactly one calendar month with no overlap.
Ranges you can paste
| You want | JQL |
|---|---|
| Created in the last 24 hours | created >= -24h ORDER BY created DESC |
| Created this week, still open | created >= startOfWeek() AND statusCategory != Done ORDER BY priority DESC, created ASC |
| Overdue | due < now() AND statusCategory != Done ORDER BY due ASC |
| Due in the next 7 days | due >= now() AND due <= 7d AND statusCategory != Done ORDER BY due ASC |
| Moved to Done during a date range | status changed to Done during ("2026-09-01", "2026-09-30") |
| Resolved since a fixed date | resolved >= "2026-07-01" ORDER BY resolved DESC |
How the date functions behave
- Relative dates.
-24h,-7dand7dcount from now. A minus sign means the past, no sign means the future. - Start-of functions.
startOfDay(),startOfWeek(),startOfMonth()andstartOfYear()take an offset such as(-1)or(-14d). MatchingendOf...functions exist too. - No quarter function. There is no
startOfQuarter(). For a quarter, use explicit dates such asresolved >= "2026-07-01" AND resolved < "2026-10-01". - Week start.
startOfWeek()follows your Jira site's locale, so the first day may be Sunday or Monday. - Time zone. Dates are evaluated in your profile's time zone, so two people can see different results near midnight.
- No day-of-week filter. JQL cannot select "created on a weekend" or "Mondays only".
